Compress a video for Telegram

Telegram takes files up to 2 GB, so this isn't about a hard limit — it's about speed. A smaller file uploads in seconds and plays immediately for everyone in the chat.

Telegram's limits

Telegram's limit is 2 GB per file, or 4 GB with Telegram Premium, so you rarely have to compress. A smaller file still uploads faster, plays sooner for the people you send it to and uses less mobile data. We default to a quick-to-send size; pick 'Higher quality' if that matters more.

When it's worth compressing

  • You're on mobile data or a slow connection.
  • You're posting to a channel or a big group, where every viewer downloads the file.
  • You recorded in 4K or high bitrate and the extra detail won't show on a phone screen.

Questions people ask

What's Telegram's file size limit?

2 GB per file for everyone, 4 GB with Telegram Premium.

Doesn't Telegram compress videos itself?

Videos sent as media are converted for streaming, but the full upload still has to leave your phone first. Compressing beforehand makes the upload itself faster.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. LimitFix compresses the video inside your browser, on your own device, so the file isn't uploaded to us or anyone else. The only exception is the optional cloud processing for Pro users, which you have to choose explicitly; those files are deleted automatically after processing.
