Compress a video for Instagram

Instagram accepts big files, then re-compresses them to 1080p anyway. Sending a huge file just means a long, fragile upload. LimitFix gives Instagram exactly what it keeps.

Instagram's video limits

Instagram accepts video files up to about 4 GB, and length limits depend on whether you post a Reel, a Story or a feed video. The practical problem is upload time: big files stall on mobile data and Instagram re-compresses them to 1080p anyway. A 1080p MP4 around 100 MB uploads quickly with no visible loss after Instagram's processing.

Vertical videos stay vertical

Portrait and square videos keep their shape. We size the short side (the width of a vertical video) to 1080 pixels, which is what Instagram displays.

Questions people ask

What resolution does Instagram use?

Instagram displays video at up to 1080 pixels wide. Uploading 4K doesn't make your Reel sharper; it only makes the upload slower.

Will compressing make my Reel look worse?

Not visibly, at the default size. Instagram compresses every upload; starting from a clean 1080p file avoids it compressing an already over-compressed one.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. LimitFix compresses the video inside your browser, on your own device, so the file isn't uploaded to us or anyone else. The only exception is the optional cloud processing for Pro users, which you have to choose explicitly; those files are deleted automatically after processing.
